About the Universe... Feb 8

How Fast Does Earth Move Through The Universe?

“A Universal Wonderment”

I don’t mean to slam anybody, but do you have any idea how insignificant we are? The thought captured my mind yesterday. My brain has been held captive many times during my adult life, and this time I believe what recently landed on me is worth sharing. It has to do with the Universe.

Begs the question, what doesn’t involve the Universe? Some would have us believe that it is never ending. That’s the astrological group I belong in. It is so much easier to believe that the Universe never ends, because otherwise you have wonder what is beyond it.

While doing a plethora of research, I not only discovered how to spell “plethora”, but how big the Universe is according to many people who never have and never will see the end of it. One reason has to do with the fact that scientists are applying math to come to grips with the size, distance, and brightness of things we can’t see.

We have recently been informed that the universe is 93-billion light years across. And get this, it’s continually spreading out. As mentioned above, “If there is an end of the universe, what is out there beyond it?” It is that very question that causes me to believe there is no end to space. That is so much easier than trying to figure out how many other universes there might be? And the one question that would get me disfellowshipped is the question, “Does each life-giving planet within the never-ending universe, have the same God as ours?” If you never considered that before, it’s best not to think of it now.

Universal thinking can ruin some religions. And, as mentioned, it can cause some members to get castigated. I had an uncle once who did not live through a castigation. Apart from that tidbit, the one supposed factoid is that the Universe started out with an explosion 13.8 billion years ago. (That time is likely not accurate to the minute.) What continues in this head scratching topic is that the galaxies that came from the Universal explosion continue to expand. And their expansion causes an elongation of each galaxy. I don’t know if the people in those galaxies realize that, but it’s something best not to think about.

Thus, begging the question, what’s beyond the forever distance that will never come from one explosion? Keeping in mind that before 14 billion years ago, there was no beginning of the universe, according to most scientists. Obviously, these great minds are millions of times smarter than me, but did they ever wonder about what was around before the 14-billion-year-old explosion? What we have in our current Universe is a never-ending area of darkness. What was God doing before the non-beginning of nothing? And if there is no God, how did the whole event get started? Was it an eternity of a never-ending blank space?

Which begs another question, what is TIME. That’s hard to figure because there was apparently no beginning to it, yet it supposedly has a forever time frame? That makes you and me mere specks during an endless time. I personally think there is a heaven. Like everyone on the planet, I can’t prove it to my satisfaction or anyone else’s. As a Christian, I can only trust it to be true. And if there is a heaven in this forever Universe, are there already countless souls of beings living in some form in heaven, or spread out over a never-ending universe?

My description of a heaven, may sound depressing as can be, but a much better Biblical description reads, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of mankind, is what God has prepared for those who love Him.” (I Corinthians 2:9) I like how that reads.

Compared against the never-ending space of the Universe, you and I are of no account. However, if we put aside the Universe and concentrate only on Earth, we still won’t be remembered for long. Some humans have left a bigger mark than others. Betty Davis being one of them. (I have no idea where that came from.) You and I may have done many things worthwhile without knowing it. I know for a fact that I have done many good and bad things. Regardless, our lives here will be forgotten in no time.

And universally speaking, we won’t be here any longer than a universal-second. At this point, that seems to be how fast a lifetime goes by. And after we’re gone, something else may happen… or it won’t. It depends on too many things. For me, it all depends on the importance of faith during my time here in this Universe.
